It is 2023 and we just celebrated Upword’s fifth birthday. As an organisation at the forefront of India’s multipolar culture war, we feel 5 decades older (and hopefully wiser). This year, Upword went through major structural changes and we reoriented ourselves towards our core mission of discourse building. We took a conscious decision to steer away from the noise of short-term electoral politics and focus on the long-term civilisational agenda.
In the five years since our inception, we have played our part in cutting through all the noise of mainstream media and politics and helping our viewers attain intellectual clarity on a wide range of issues that matter to all of us. We have done our best to make our content insightful and authentic, so we may do justice to our commitment to educate and empower.
Last year, we raised Rs. 25 lac through crowd-funding and the same was utilised to cover the costs of R&D, scriptwriting, art development, animation, post-production and overheads. Our major works from last year include videos on Veer Savarkar, the Khilafat Movement, Anti-dowry laws (ft Deepika Bharadwaj), Abrahamic iconoclasm (ft Prof Meenakshi Jain), Pashubali (ft Rajarshi Nandy) and many more. We undertook research projects on Hindu-Sikh relations, World History of genocides and a critical study of Arya Samaj. Please read our annual report to get a glimpse of all the work we accomplished in the last year.
Half of 2023 is already behind us and we have been working hard on many cutting-edge projects that will soon be published. Here is a sneak peek into what’s cooking.
